Katie Price
Katie Price is a former glamour model who has become a well-known buinesswoman, author, TV personality and equestrian celebrity. She is well known for her marriage to former pop singer Peter Andre and a number of reality TV shows that were based around this relationship.
Katie began riding when she was a child and she was given a pony. She says that her funniest moment on horses was when she rode naked through her garden with her cousin.
Her earliest equestrian hero was the famous show jumper John Whittaker while Katies advice is simply to 'go for it'.The model says that being around horses takes her mind off work, and she 'loves it' - including the fresh air and mucking out.
From having lessons every Saturday when she was a youngster, Katie has gone on to compete in a number of dressage competitions. On her debut in 2008 she came sixth out of 27 riders at Hickstead showjumping ground in Sussex. There were even suggestions then that she could compete in the Olympics.
Katie has spoken out repeatedly against animal cruelty, including horse fighting in China.
Deborah Meaden
Deborah Meaden is a businesswoman on the BBC show Dragons' Den. She began riding horses when she was six years old and her mother took her to Minehead where there were ponies on the beach. She was later allower to ride them and became 'besotted'.
Deborah was later given a Welsh mountain cob when she was 16 which was bought for £60. She says he was very 'bolshy but full of character' and liked to bolt through low-hanging braches.
The businesswoman advises people who are considering taking up horse riding to first of all ensure that they have good balance and secondly be comfortable around horses.
She says that horses played a large part in her development when she was younger as she had to pay for all the costs herself. She now describes herself as a 'casual rider'. 'I have had my best and most magical times on horseback,' she adds.
Tara Palmer Tomkinson
Tara Palmer Tomkinson is a well-known socialite in England. She has had public battles with drugs and alcohol.
Tara was first given a pony by her father who had bought it from the circus when she was aged five. She said that she rode the pony through her home.
She says that the funniest moment she had was painting her white pony with black stripes so that it looked like a zebra. She then put on a grass skirt and coconuts and rode it through her stately home.
Tara advises people to be 'brave' and always get straight back on the horse if they fall off. She jokes that although she once dreamed of winning the Grand National, riding through Trafalgar Square like Lady Godiva would now be more suitable.
The socialite says that there is a 'fine line' between animals and man, and that it is a 'rewarding challenge' to be so close to a horse. She was trained briefly by eventer Mark Todd and Oliver Townend for an Express Eventing celebrity jump off against Jodie Kidd in 2008.
Madonna
Madonna is an American world-famous pop star. She initially pursued a dance career in New York and released a debut album in 1983. Since then she has released many more pop albums that have been widely acclaimed and also starred in the film Evita in 1996.
Madonna owns a number of horses and horses have featured repeatedly in her music videos. It is unclear when Madonna's horse riding hobby began. Unlinke many women whose passion for horses begins on ponies in childhood, Madonna's like for equestrian activities It is thought to have started during adulthood.
In 2008, Madonna was pictures on an Indian holiday in which she went on numerous horse-back riding treaks across the landscape. The singer took her then husband Guy Ritchie and children on the $200,000 vacation to the Rajasthani desert.
Later in April 2009 Madonna was reported to have bough a Summer retreats in the Hamptons. She pput up her horses at the Wolffer Estate Vineyards and reportedly produced a list of demands, that included 'nobody riding in the ring at the same time as her'. Madonna has also been criticised for riding without a helmet.
It was around the same time in April 2009 that Madonna was taken to hospital after falling from her horse in the Hamptons. This was her second horse-riding accident in four years.
She received minor injuries and bruises after the accident which was reported to have happened at the estate of photographer Steven Klein.
Madonna claimed that the accident was caused when paparazzi hiding in the bushes tried to take pictures of her which spooked the horse and threw her.
