Samantha Brick: 'Women hate me for being beautiful'

Updated on April 5, 2012

Samantha Brick

Samantha Brick has caused quite a stir.

And this time if her anecdotes are anything to go by it hasn't been in men's pants.
The writer has prompted an avalanche of abuse from across the world for claiming that women hate her because she's beautiful.

She said in an article that her looks have been a constant source of difficulty throughout her life. Her beauty is a curse, not a blessing, she says.

On the plus side her looks have left men spellbound by her presence. One such love-sick little chump, a pilot indeed, sent her a bottle of champagne.

He spotted her from the cockpit of the jet he was flying and sought her out with the hope of wisking her off to some tropical love island.

Samantha has no doubt encouraged this attention from men. It would be easy enough to stop the gifts and flirting if she wanted to.

But why would she complain about desperate men falling over themselves to help a sweet little damsel like herself?

Perhaps she has low self-esteem and needs attention from men to make her feel good. There's no crime in that. Though her husband, the formiddable Pascal Rubinatin the Dordogne (pictured yesterday in hunting gear, biker mustache and rifle), may like to have a chat with her about this.

What appears to have riled people the most is Samantha's attitude. More specifically, her views about her fellow women.

Samatha believes that she's beautiful. Pascal does too. There are also a handful of people that share this view.

But beauty is subjective and the general consensus is that she's average-looking. A six or seven at best for the majority of men. There have been plenty of males this week who have enjoyed giving her a dose of reality.

What has caused most apoplexy has been Samantha's opinion of other females.
She has accused them of jealousy, spite and vengeance all because they cannot handle her intense beauty.

Women can be critical of other ladies' appearances. They like to look at stars in glossy magazines. They ask men 'do you find Angelina Jolie attractive'. Or 'is Penelope Cruz good-looking in your opinion?'

British women are culturally different from those in LA or the Mediterranean and in some ways Samantha is right. The Americans have a 'you go, girl' outlook on life.

And taken to the extreme there have been cases of teenage girls committing suicide after being bullied because of their looks.

Everybody's experience of life is different and it could be that Samantha has experienced a degree of ill feeling towards her because of her looks. Though this is likely to have become a self-fulfilling belief throughout her life, as her 'told you so' response to the reaction to her first article proves.

So should we really be getting so angry at her?

A far deserving person of such bile would be the lamentable Cheryl Cole.

Whereas Samantha is comfortable to strut around with her protruding stomach secure in her opinion of herself, Cheryl insists on a rigorous beauty regime that would be more fitting to Queen Nefertiti. It was only this week that she revealed she travels with two pairs of jeans - one for when she's eaten an extra lettuce leaf.

But Cheryl is no stunner. Her past - including attacking a woman in a toilet amid accusations of racism - are about as refined as a builder's elbow. Her rise to fame? Marrying a footballer.
She throws pathetic tantrums when she can't get her own way. Have we forgotten about her exit from the X Factor judging panel after a fall out with Simon Cowell?

And whenever she wants to get in the papers she dons a pair of hot pants and a pouts in some ridiculous 'I am beautiful way' safe in the knowledge she will get what she wants.

Her arrogance is breathtaking. Do we really want to see another picture of Cheryl worshiping herself in a pair of skimpy hot-pants? No thanks.

Samantha is far more attractive and intelligent than Cheryl. Give us more of her, please.
